Inspired by how the human body adapts to exercise training and intrigued by the mechanisms behind it Stephen completed a PhD in Biomedical Sciences with a focus on exercise nutrition and training adaptation.

Stephen has combined his passion for sports science and cycling by developing HPTek - a cycling specific coaching business. With now over 12 years experience as a professional coach Stephen has worked with a variety of successful athletes including multiple UCI World Tour riders, Elite U/23 National champions and podium place getters as well as multiple UCI and Masters Hour Record breaking athletes.

As well as elite athletes Stephen has helped many young riders progress from club racing to National Road Series teams as well as coaching multiple Age Group Masters athletes to State, National and World Championship wins across all disciplines of cycling including road, track, time trial, cyclocross and MTB.

Stephen is now one of the most recognised coaches in Australia and together with his associate coaches is developing HPTek into one of Australia’s biggest cycling specific coaching resources.

Cyrus is a professional cyclist who combines WorldTour experience with academic expertise. Holding a Bachelor of Science in Physiology from the University of Melbourne, Cyrus applies a functional understanding of human biology to every training plan, ensuring his methods are rooted in evidence based practices. His recent racing history is world-class, featuring tenures with Q36.5 Pro Cycling and FNIX-SCOM-Hengxiang, as well as titles including U23 Australian Road Champion and World University Champion.

 

Through his Train Like a Monk media platform, Cyrus has become a leading voice in debunking "bro-science," translating peer-reviewed research into practical strategies for nutrition, recovery, and performance. This combination of elite tactical expertise and scientific discipline makes him an exceptional mentor for athletes of all levels. Having successfully balanced a pro career with university study, Cyrus specialises in riders achieve elite results through efficient, data-driven coaching.

MARK OBRIEN

Mark is a well established coach and has been the man guiding many successful athletes to victory over the past few years. Based in Melbourne he looks after a wide range of athletes Australia wide. Mark’s coaching experience draws from his career as a successful continental and domestic rider. In the past Mark has ridden for the likes of Raleigh Racing, DraPac, Budget Forklifts and Team Inform Make. As well as representing Australia multiple times on national teams. On the bike his strengths lay in his climbing abilities. With a W/kg to make almost anyone jealous he is always a contender when the road goes up.

As a coach Mark values his communication with his athletes. He encourages regular contact so he can keep up to date with how the training program is tracking. His enthusiasm and love for riding a bike translates to a great coach-athlete relationship and motivates all his athletes to get the best out of themselves.


NATHAN ELLIOTT

Nathan brings to HPTek years of experience as a high-level cyclist and a Level 1 coaching certification.

After a successful career including 2 x Melbourne to Warrnambool wins as well as 1 x win and 2 x podiums at Grafton to Inverell it is fair enough to say that Nathan has proven himself as one of Australia’s best one-day classics riders.

Over the years Nathan has been coached by several of Australia’s leading cycling coaches including Mark Fenner and Greg Henderson. From working with these renowned coaches Nathan has learnt the science and art of programming and now applies the methods he has learnt as a coach himself.

Nathan has completed a Bachelor’s degree in Biomedicine which provides him with a thorough understanding of the human body and the physiological systems involved in training adaptation and peak performance. Nathan is planning to continue his studies and undertake Doctorate of Medicine.

Lachlan has over 15 years experience of elite competition both in XC mountain bike and road cycling. Representing Australia at 8 Mountain Bike World Championships and competing for teams at all three levels of professional road cycling around the World, Lachlan understands how to maximise performance through structured and consistent training. 

As an outdoorsman with a lifelong passion for mountain biking, gravel and road cycling along with trail running, hiking and any other excuse to get fit and be outside in the elements, Lachlan believes in a holistic approach to training. Combining mental wellbeing and resilience with structured, science-based training to best understand what makes an athlete tick and to maximise their performance.
